Copy testing

A/B testing copy without needing paid traffic

August 20, 2026 · 5 min read

A classic A/B test — running two versions live and measuring which converted more — needs traffic. A lot of traffic. Without enough volume, the result has no statistical significance: it might look like one version won just by chance.

That leaves small stores in a trap: they know they should test copy, but don't have the traffic to test it the "right" way.

The alternative: preference testing before publishing

Instead of publishing both versions live and waiting for real conversion data (which takes time and needs volume), you can test preference before publishing: show both versions to a small group — your team, past customers, even yourself at different times — and ask which one would convince them more to buy.

It doesn't replace a real A/B test with paid traffic running at scale. But it solves the problem of publishing in the dark, which is what most small stores do today: write once, publish, never revisit.

How this becomes a routine

Copy Duel inside Copy2Sell was designed exactly for this scenario — it generates two versions of the same copy, compares them side by side, and lets you decide which to publish based on real preference, not guesswork. It's not A/B testing with traffic, it's a way to never publish again without comparing at least two alternatives.
